How we are funded

Roughly three-quarters of our income is Western Cape Department of Social Development subsidy, tied to specific service posts. The remaining quarter — the part that keeps the organisation itself alive — comes from rental income on our own property, our charity shop, training income and donations.

  • ±74% — government subsidies (social work and workshop posts)
  • ±12% — rental income from the Reable property
  • ±10% — charity shop, training, recoveries
  • ±4% — donations and fundraising: the growth frontier, and where your gift lands

Percentages from the 2026/27 approved budget; audited figures in the AFS below.

Our government partnership

The Western Cape Department of Social Development funds our social work and protective workshop posts through three Transfer Payment Agreements, renewed annually against delivered outcomes. The relationship comes with teeth - DSD officials inspect our sites, audit our spending against approved business plans, and score us publicly: 90% and 85% ("Mature/Healthy") at the last monitoring round.

We value that scrutiny. It means a donor's rand joins a system already verified by government - and every rand you give goes where the subsidy cannot: the vehicles, the building, the way to the door.
